Animal Welfare & Conservation

Animal Welfare & Conservation

Animal welfare has been the refuge's leitmotif since 2008. By offering quality accommodation and care, from wildlife professionals who do everything possible to meet their needs, Tonga Terre d'Accueil ensures that each animal is as well as possible after a complicated start to life.

  • Caretakers and veterinarians present every day .
  • A readapted diet if necessary, precise health monitoring.
  • Enrichments in the form of games offered to animals to punctuate their days and keep them occupied.
  • Buildings adapted for these animals, with exteriors, which constitute a clear improvement on their past living conditions.

The Conservation

By fighting against trafficking in animal species and supporting the authorities in enforcing the law, the association acts for the conservation of biodiversity.
It also plays a public health mission , since the animals seized are generally of unknown origin, with an uncertain health status, and can be vectors of disease. By welcoming seized animals, it also prevents the dispersal of unwanted genes, such as the Savannah hybrid cats, created from the Serval, which have a heightened hunting instinct and which could be transmitted to domestic/stray cats. An additional danger for European birds or reptiles, already badly mistreated by our domestic cats and by humans.
